Supporting community libraries in Myanmar (2017-2019)

 

Magic Libraries funded a 2-year project to support 60 community libraries in 13 regions of Myanmar to enhance children’s reading literacy.

This project seeks to expand libraries’ children book stocks and promote the joy of reading through activities such as peer reading, storytelling and reading competitions in the 13 regions of Ayeyarwaddy, Bago, Chin, Kachin, Magway, Mandalay, Nay Pyi Taw, Sagaing, Shan, Rakhine, Yangon.

Between 2017 and 2018, Magic Libraries and its implementing partner, Myanmar and Bood Aid Preservation Fund (MBAPF) have:

• delivered 16’650 children’s books to 60 community libraries
• trained 60 librarians in storytelling and book activities for children
• conducted monthly storytelling sessions for children
• organized regular peer reading sessions
